Update 13 October 2011
I have completed the last two competitions of the season and came away with three Gold from the CP Sport National Championships, where it was very wet windy conditions and the final competition in Kingston upon Thames, Surrey, an Open Track meeting with the sun blazing down on us.
I have started college doing a BTEC Sport & Gym Instructors course and I’ve started my winter training with new coaches, Jenny & David and they are working me very hard. No Pain, No Gain as they say!!
It’s turning dark at the track already so it’s good to get out on the road at the weekend in the daylight.
I’m still in a borrowed Racing Wheelchair but hopefully in the next few weeks I will be able to pick mine up from Draft.
I’ve been selected to play for the East Midland Wheelchair Basketball team too in October at Stoke Mandeville. I’ve played W/C Basketball for the last 4 years for the Jaguars at Newark and want to continue with the sport to keep up my fitness and I love being part of a team sport. This will be a fun three days but I won’t be forgetting my racing training either.
My name is Jamie Carter, I am 16 years old and I live in the village of Binbrook. I have a disability called Cerebral palsy (CP) this affects all my limbs and fine motor skills but I do not let this affect me in whatever I do and I have a dream of one day taking part in the Paralympics representing Great Britain.
I was first introduced to Wheelchair racing after attending a Playground 2 Podium day in Hull. I then attended a Paralympic potential day in Sheffield, this is where I was spotted for my talent for wheelchair racing, I also brought my first borrowed chair home. I was fast track though to UK Athletics and they now support me.
I started my training straight away but due to the bad weather I wasn’t able to continue until February 2011 and then competed in my first race, the Lincoln 10k in April. I came in 3rd with a new personal best. The excitement of the day was amazing and I was hooked on the sport.
The end of April was where I started the track season in Stoke Mandeville, Aylesbury. Most weekends since then I have competed somewhere around the UK, going anywhere from Dublin, Cardiff to Liverpool.
Over the season I have set lots of new personal bests and now rank number 1 in Great Britain in my classification for the 200, 400 & 800m.
I have just been to Sheffield to compete in the Sainsbury UK School Games 2011, I came away winning Gold in the 100 & 200m and also making lots of new friends after an amazing 4 days.
I have two more competitions this year in my borrowed racing chair whilst i’m waiting for my own racing chair to be built in the next few weeks and then will go into the winter training.
Lincs Loos are delighted to be able to offer sponsorship to assist Jamie in his endeavours, including his hope of carrying the Olympic Flame in 2012.
We shall keep you posted on a monthly basis of Jamie’s progress.
